The Coming Great Communion Revival

The Coming Great Communion Revival: John 6 Gospel Reading Follow-up.

In 2022, Pentecostal revivalist, Lou Engle, had a prophetic dream about the "Coming of a Great Communion Revival".  Meanwhile, Beni Johnson of Bethel church Redding, Ca. had written a book in 2019 called “The Power of Communion: Accessing Miracles Through the Body and Blood of Jesus”. My understanding is that Engle went to visit Beni Johnson concerning his prophetic dream.  Obviously, Jesus was, and is, speaking to His entire Church regarding the celebration of the feast of His body and blood: what we call Communion, Eucharist, and The Lord’s Supper.

Becoming His Unbroken Body

On my website ( https://www.hopeontheway.info/vignettes ) I recall the powerful experiences that I witnessed during the last Charismatic Renewal.  Here’s a comment from that page: "As we were rocked by the love of God and the power of The Holy Spirit, we sensed something was wrong. The box we called "Church" was too limited to contain what God was doing in and with us.  We realized that God was speaking quietly, intensely, and deeply to us.  In our own small way, Jesus was saying- as he has to many others- including gentle Saint Francis of Assisi, ‘Rebuild My Church'.  "We slowly began to understand that Jesus was speaking to us about John 17 unity and that He wanted to bring all the streams of The Church back together.  He wanted us to embody more of His presence and ministry, and be His unbroken Body. So, that we could become more of His lifegiving Body to a broken world."  More simply stated: "Jesus’ body was broken for us, so we can be the unbroken body of Jesus, for a broken world."

Understanding the Sacramental Nature and Presence of Jesus

On the Amazon page that promotes Beni Johnson’s book, the following is written: “Don’t settle for a lifeless routine. God is supernaturally present in the sacrament of Communion! Learn to embrace this prophetic act of remembrance, worship, warfare, and healing as it was always meant to be!”

Benni Johnson uses the word "sacrament”.  I could write about the origin of this Latin word and its corresponding New Testament Greek word "mysterion”. However, for the sake of brevity, let me explain it in the following: A sacrament is visible sign, and a visible means, of an inward, invisible, grace. That “grace” is always received by faith.

As The Church, when we embody all the ministry and spirituality of Jesus, we holistically become the unbroken Body of Christ to the world. Another way of stating this is that “The Church is the sacrament of Jesus for the world.” As the lost of this world receive the presence and ministry of Jesus that is expressed in and through us, His Church, they receive Jesus: Matthew 10:40 “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.”

Where Can We Find “The Great Communion Revival”?

You will find the source of this revival in John 17 in Jesus’ prayer for visible unity: “…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” The celebration of Communion is a sacramental “Sign” for many things, especially the visible unity of Jesus’ Church.

I think another place you look for this “Great Communion Revival” is the history and writings of the Church of early Christianity. Since they were established by Jesus and the Apostles, they were certainly able to express the “Communion Revival”.  Lastly, I believe we will also see the “Communion Revival” fully expressed in the Church at the end of the present age.

In the meantime, unlike others revivals in Church history, “The Great Communion Revival” is not able to be fully expressed in one event, person, place, church, ministry, or movement (Check out my video to see my thoughts about this: https://youtu.be/i4gndSKhghQ ).  I think this is why getting hold of “The Coming Great Communion Revival” may have temporarily eluded our Pentecostal brothers and sisters.  I think this is a grassroots revival.  We have to “Jump in The River”, go for the ride, and do our best to embody all the ministry, spirituality, and presence of Jesus. Obviously, the Holy Spirit’s expression of renewal and revival in the Church through the centuries can inform us. Certainly, sacred scripture and the writings of the early Church fathers contain the information to guide us. As the apostolic Church unfailingly proclaimed Jesus in Spirit, Word, and Sacrament to the Roman world.

Finally, “YES”, I’m ready for “The Coming Great Communion Revival”!  I’m willing to Jump in the River and go for the ride.  How about you?
