Why Grassroots Revival Is America’s Only Hope!

“Why Revival Is America’s Only Hope!” This was a recent headline in a popular online Christian periodical. Rather than being hyperbole, if anything, the title is understated. For the last ten years, I’ve been sounding the same theme. However, I would amend the headline from “Why Revival Is America’s Only Hope!” to “Why Grassroots Revival Is America’s Only Hope!”
Sorry to be the Killjoy
I don’t like being so glum, but sadly, the current expression of the contemporary Church in the USA cannot be expected to give birth to a genuine revival. The best we can do is cry out to God for an ignition of generational revival(s) at the grassroots level- a spontaneous and combustive move of the Holy Spirit that can’t be appropriated by social media influencing, nor be confined to the “stages” of contemporary churches.
In fact, such a grassroots move of God will 1.“ruin” churches, denominations, and ministry leaders, and ironically, only those churches, ministries, and leaders that have been 2.“bended” and broken will be able to receive the harvest of lives born anew by the Spirit of God.
The Refuge Crisis of Revival
Out of this great revival will come a harvest of saved souls that have been sickened by progressive, occult, and woke culture. These new followers of Jesus will need spiritual family: Fathers, Mothers, and mature Brothers and Sisters. Even though they be born anew, they will need deliverance, healing, and spiritual formation (catechesis). Rather than craving the glitz of contemporary church culture, they will hunger for the simple presentation of foundational biblical teaching and the reception of the body and blood of Jesus in holy communion
This is Beyond Our Control, But We Can Get Ready
There is a popular 1960s song called 3.“People Get Ready”. The first verse is:
People get ready
There's a train a-coming
You don't need no baggage
You just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
You just thank the Lord
What Now? Cry out to God that grassroots Revival breaks out in apartments, homes, hang outs, schools, streets, and work places of our secular culture. In the meantime, “people (churches/ministries/leaders) get ready there’s a train a-coming…”
1. Is. 6:5, 8 “I am ruined!” “Here am I. Send me!”
2. “Lord, bend us” (Prayer that ignited the Welsh Revival).
